The Hypersomnia Foundation and Hypersomnolence Australia are coming together to spread awareness about idiopathic hypersomnia (IH). Idiopathic Hypersomnia Day (IH Day) is collaborating with Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week (IHAW). The IHAW will start with the IH Day on June 1st and will conclude on June 7th 2024. We are grateful to be partnering with Hypersomnolence Australia in our joint efforts to inform and acknowledge idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) on a global scale. IH Day and IHAW mobilizes the IH community to raise awareness, educate, and uplift the voices of those living with idiopathic hypersomnia. Hypersomnolence Australia first launched the IHAW in 2013. Since its inception, IHAW has united the IH community across 15 countries, fostering awareness and promoting education about IH. The IHAW has translated awareness infographics into 13 different languages. Together we hope this collaborative action will accelerate the diagnosis process, advance research to find the cause, and reduce stigma. MSIF was officially established in 1967 as an international body that coordinated with national MS organizations belonging to many countries like Turkey, Slovakia, India, and the U.S. The federation aims to bring light to MS and the scientific research related to it.  The theme for this year’s World Multiple Sclerosis Day is ‘Connect.’  This theme, which continues from 2020 through 2022,  focuses on bringing the world together by forming a connection with each other as well as the self for the sake of better care. MSIF spends the whole month of May and early June spreading awareness and hope about MS through their themed campaigns.

Indigenous Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies (www.IPAT.au) will be presenting for the first time at the Australian Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Practitioners conference with our talk ‘Healing with Plant Kin’ Abstract: Healing with plant kin: the power of Indigenous wisdom in the psychedelic ecosystem For thousands of years, First Nations people globally have cultivated respectful relationships with plants and are the original knowledge holders of their wisdom. Sadly, many original practices were interrupted and fractured due to the atrocities of colonisation. We continue to see the ongoing impacts including inter-generational, trauma and systemic racism. As plant medicine and psychedelics are integrated into the Western medical model, very few companies are in right-relationship, actively consulting with and collaborating with Indigenous peoples or recognising them as the knowledge keepers in this space. Indigenous Psychedelic Assisted Therapies (IPAT) was formed to ensure Indigenous peoples have a place in the Australian psychedelic ecosystem and advocate for reciprocity through right relationships for First Nations peoples, knowledge systems, culture, Country and communities. In this presentation, learn about the development of a protocol of PAT rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing, with cultural safety at the forefront to ensure greater accessibility for First Nations peoples, improved outcomes and a deeply immersive experience available to all. As childhood mortality from infectious diseases falls across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the burden of disease attributed to surgical conditions is increasing. However, limited data exist on the burden of pediatric surgeries and outcomes in SSA. Uganda has a fast-growing population of about 3.3% per year, and a fertility rate of 4.55 births per woman, implying a rapidly growing child population. The pediatric population is currently about 20 million. Like many countries in Africa, Uganda is a low-income country with a budget that cannot adequately support her healthcare system. Several countries in sub-Saharan Africa belong to the group with the highest burden of surgical disease in the world, the estimated prevalence of surgical conditions being greater than 40% of the population. (Ajiko 2023) It's so fulfilling to see the great work Kid'sOR does in Africa. Ugandan children are forever thankful. Great to have our first Kid'sOR theatre in Mbarara regional referral hospital. Great to learn alot from the whole team.
